17.06.2002: New solo expedition of Boris Berkut: 13 000 kilometers on a bicycle! Boris Berkut, the very person who had biked 8 000 kilometers from Vladivostok to Saint-Petersburg the last summer, is in for a long way again. This time a brave soloist chose even a more arduous route. He is going to break a new bike-route to Vladivostok.
On afternoon of the 5th of June Boris had started to his journey spang from BASK gates. Our company had provided the biker with all the equipment, required for such an intricate solo expedition. Boris took a train to Arkhangelsk. From that town he will start his super-long 13 000 km two-wheel trek to Vladivostok via Kazakhstan.
How long will it last? None knows for sure. A personal speed record (set up last summer) of Boris Berkut is 57 km/h. Boris plans to pass on an average 100 kms per day (minding the required rest, bike care and unexpected problems).
Boris got a new two-wheeled friend called ‘Scwinn’. This powerful bike replaced his worn out kin ‘Marin’, which became much below any margin of safety after the previous travel.
Berkut plans to inform us and all journalists of the course of his trek, when he is to bike through big cities. Boris wishes to share his impressions with all who like extreme travels.
Physical state or proper equipment is still not enough to stand a trial of loneliness and a hard way. The main point is self-reliance and sound mentality, benevolence to outer world and people. ‘Who lives well, he rides well’, – that is a credo of Boris Berkut, a sea navigator in profession and a romantic philosopher in heart.
