North Pole Challeenge-2006
A walk to the North Pole, an opportunity to experience an environment under threat from climatic change, a reason to get fitter, something to aim for, an adventure or just a mid-life crisis. Whatever their reason: eight intrepid explorers are risking all to raise funds for some very worthwile causes. They had left the UK on the 6th April.
The expedition was supplied by BASK equipment such as Khan Tengri UIAA parkas and Karakorum sleeping bags.

The team have now really started on their adventure, and have left Spitzbergen on the Antonov transprt plane. You will be glad to know that they have landed safely at Camp Barneo and are now collecting extra cooking fuel and getting the latest updates on conditions on the ice. Pete is optimistic about the conditions as the temperature is around -17 which is cold enough for good ice but not so cold as to be considered extreme. They are hoping to get the helicopter out onto the ice later on tonight, remembering of course that they are in 24 hour daylight.
