Following newborn tradition, BASK company has sponsored Russian national team at ice-climbing competitions, this time at the Ice World Cup 2002. First stage of World Cup started where it finished last year – in Kirov, on 2-5 of January.
Final results were rather successful for Russians, though keeping in mind skills of our athletes we expected more. The Jury has highly appreciated advances of our young ice-climbers, who themselves were surprised a bit with such results as they were competing with the most experienced world athletes.
Women started first and our ice-climbers showed a high level of excellence both in `difficulty’ and in `speed’ competitions. In `speed’ category all the podium was occupied with Russians:
1. Natalia Kulikova
2. Margaret Kolodkina
3. Nadejda Yakimova
All of them were equipped with warm BASK jackets.
In the men’s event we saw breathtaking competition between Krivosheicev (Ukraine) who climbed the route excellently and won the game and Vlasov (Russia) who erred a bit and placed second.
