BASK clothes enabled Russian climbers to feel comfortable on the first day of the New Year at Mont Blanc summit with –300C outside. Six Russian climbers in BASK warm jackets summited Mont Blanc (4807m – highest point of Alps) on the morning of the 1st of January 2002.
The expedition is a part of `Decline of the Age. Dawn of info-communication millennium’ project. Maxim Shakirov is an author and a leader of the project. He and his team used to meet the New Year at highest world summits. They aim to visit all such peaks and to video-record New Year Eves there. In 2000/2001 New Year the team had climbed the highest point of Europe – Mt. Elbrus (5642m).
UNESCO has proclaimed new 2002 year a year of mountains, so it was not occasional that this time the team chose exactly Mont Blanc – the cradle of alpinism. It was not easy to ascend the mount. Starting on 29th of December at 1820m climbers reached the summit on the first day of 2002.
The weather was clear but windy, temperature varied from –20C to –30C. Warm thinsulate and down BASK jackets, mittens and sleeping bags from our company provided sufficient level of comfort to the climbers and helped them not only to summit Mont Blanc, but to conduct all video-records they planned.
