Gleb Sokolov, one of the most experienced Novosibirsk climbers, is planning to climb famous Pobeda peak (7439 m) at Central Tyan-Shan. To be sure in himself before attempting this coldest and hardest 7K, Gleb decided to go to Himalayas at first.
Basing on his rich experience, Gleb considers Pobeda peak to be no less extreme than some 8000-ers of Central Himalayas. Deep snow, high avalanche danger and a severe climate (even Everest weather makes less drastic changes) – all these factors make the climb of Pobeda to be a very extreme endeavour. One needs to have perfect acclimatisation before trying it, so Sokolov decided to spend early May in Himalayas.
For such an athlete as Gleb, climbing of Island peak near Lkhotse is just ‘an easy training before the final assault’.
Gleb plans to reach a base camp in one week, to spend 5-7 days for ascending the summit and 4 days for the return. During this short period Gleb hopes not only to get acclimatised before climbing Pobeda, but to get accustomed with his new BASK equipment, which was provided by our company.
