Rafting championship, partially sponsored by BASK, is over now.
Four most skilful Russian teams were contending for the championship: ‘Neva-Tour’ (Saint Petersburg), ‘BASK-wave’ (Ryazan), ‘Ak-Kem’ (Altai) and ‘GAGU Horizon’ (Altai Highland). In the wrestle ‘BASK-wave’ team got the second prize, yielding the pas to Saint Petersburg rafters. GAGU was the third and ‘Ak-Kem’ – the forth.
Firstly the things shaped well for Ryazan team. ‘BASK-wave’ won the qualification round. ‘Neva’ team was leading in a slalom. The third round (parallel sprint) was a knockout competition where Ryazan team won GAGU and was the first again.
Thus, in the beginning of the fourth round ‘Neva-Tour’ and ‘BASK-wave’ were in similar positions. Final ‘long race’ had to point the winner. It turned to be ‘Neva-Tour’. In spite of the zeal showed by the fans (among whom there was a number of BASK employees), ‘BASK-wave’ was only the second. .
The president of Russian Rafting Association, Alexey Rumyantsev, gave some comments concerning the Championship. ‘National champions from Saint Petersburg are still the strongest in Russia. In spite of some rotations of their staff they were leading at the competitions as they had been doing the previous years. Nevertheless, I see big progress in ‘BASK-wave’ team, which looked very positive and stable. I’m sure this team will continue to perfect its mastery and that the next season it will rejoice its fans’.
