10th anniversary ‘White nights’ competitions in caving technique took place at the spot between Karelia and Saint Petersburg region. They lasted for two days: since the 22nd till the 23rd of June.
As usual, for this purpose were chosen The Rocks near Light Lake. This place is famous with its solid granite rocks and clean lakes.
This year the route was prepared by Moscow cavers under supervision of the President of Jury, president of Russian Caving Association, Yuri Kosoruky
Twelve teams (four members in each) from Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Kiev, Obninsk and Vyatka had participated in ‘White nights-2002’ and audience of several hundreds had gathered to support them.
First round was a relay race where each member ought to prove his climbing skills. Those, who managed to keep within control terms, were allowed to a second round. The latter included rescue techniques, hauling bags, suspension rope bridge technique and climbing up a route.
For rescue exercises was chosen a cliff that was overhanging above the lake. Besides quick and skilful work the members had to show their intellect. They needed to pick up a maximum of control items of different value. Many teams used extraordinary tricks like swimming across the cold lake in an entire outfit.
The wrestle was hard and, at last, young Saint Petersburg ‘Dzerjin’ team won. Second prize was taken by Saint Petersburg caving club leaded by Valentin Ryschov and the third – by ‘Cavex-BASK’ team.
All winners were awarded KONG Bonaiti caving equipment. Absolute winners got ‘self-moving’ Cam-Clean chest ascenders. ‘Silver’ and ‘bronze’ winners received KONG carabiners equipped with a famous ‘key-lock’ system. This new system provides more safety for users.
The prizes were granted by company BASK – official representative and distributor of KONG in Russia.
