The climb of peace in Tajik mountains. BASK-supported project

A press-conference devoted to a start of Pamirs expedition of International Mountaineering Club was hold in Russian Olympic Committee on the 19th of July.

An international climbing team will fly to Tajikistan on the 20th of July. It aims to climb one of the virgin Pamirs summits of 5800-6000 meters height. It is to be called a ‘Peak of Peoples Friendship’.

During the expedition the team will send informational reports in on-line mode using satellite facilities provided by BASK. Besides of hi-tech equipment BASK company has provided the climbers with high-altitude clothing and its famous big-wall portaledge.

Forthcoming expedition is at the same time a first reconnaissance of the range after more than 20 years of military operations that had taken place in the region. The expedition will cross Darvaz range, which was once very popular at mountaineers. In this difficult of access region there is a number of interesting virgin summits. One of such peaks that is important not only for climbers but as well for geographers was chosen as the object for the team of five Russians and four Tajik experienced athletes.

During the expedition ‘production personnel’ of the team (which includes cameramen Valery Bagov and Andrew Pilkevich, producer Olga Zubkova and is leaded by a chief coach of the expedition Yuri Baikovsky) will be making a film devoted to the climb. The expedition is leaded by a first vice-president of Russian Olympic Committee Valery Kuzin.
