Ice-climbing competition in Kemerovo

World Ice climbing Championship takes place in Kirov on 8-10th of March, 2003. BASK is a sponsor of the event. 27.6-meters ice-climbing construction, one of the highest in Russia and in the world, is to be assaulted by the strongest athletes of 15 countries.
`Previous World Championship in Austria was unofficial, – said a coach of Russian national team Pavel Shabalin. -– Only in October 2002 General UIAA Assembly declared ice-climbing to be one of `official’ sports like climbing or ski-tour. At the same meeting it was decided to hold the first Championship in Kirov, where ice-climbing traditions are particularly strong’.
Playing host to the Championship, Russia has a double-manned team. It includes Dmitry Bychkov, Ksenia Sdobnikova, Maxim Ojiganov, Marina Rashitova, Tomilov brothers, Nataly Kulikova, Liza Petenko, Nadejda Yakimova and many others who became famous in spite of there youth. Most of our athletes are dressed in read-and-blue BASK jackets – clothes from a `traditional’ sponsor of Russian ice-climbing.
