26 December was the starting date for the second expedition of St. Petersburg's Russian Ethnographical Museum (REM) to the Extreme North of Russia. The expedition's task is collection of ethnographic materials within the framework of the long-term program “Local population groups in the Extreme North of Russia”. And a second task was purely technical: a prolonged test of driving capabilities of the off-highway cars manufactured by the JT-Mobilis Company.
The expedition is being conducted by three scientists and six technical specialists — all wearing clothes from the BASK Company.
The start of the REM's research was made in September 2003, in the course of the first ethnographical expedition visiting the Kolskiy Peninsula. Now the explorers' vehicles on various stretches of the route will be two trucks, one jeep and two full-tracked cross-country vehicles. This equipment is absolutely ready to encounter the heavy road conditions including terrain that is impassible for ordinary transport means. The people are also prepared: the BASK clothes selected thoroughly to suit the northern climate are not going to fail.
